The Advanced Train Control System (ATCS) Program involved the deployment of an advanced rail signalling system in the high-performance corridors in Sydney’s suburban and intercity rail network. The initiative is a part of the long-term plan to increase the capacity of Sydney’s rail network through investment in new services and upgrading of infrastructure.
The business case for the ATCS Program investigated the feasibility of a staged replacement of existing and life expired signalling assets with a European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 system and a future upgrade to automatic train operation.
