The NSW Rail Future Directions provides a focus on the needs and expectations of NSW rail customers today and tomorrow and how the rail will best serve freight and passenger customer segments in regional and metropolitan areas across NSW.
It provides strategic directions for government agencies, private industries and the customers of NSW by defining the principles that underpin the Future Transport visionary 2056 rail network and systems.
Our people’s involvement
Provided policy advice to government on how rail can best service a multi-modal future for NSW
Road mapped and improved the effective structure of the strategy
Provided and lead a collaborative approach with Transport for NSW, stakeholders across the transport cluster, and other professional service that fostered a proactive and responsive approach to problem solving
Worked closely with project team members to produce high quality policy strategic directions, including identification of gaps in strategy directions and working with project leads to address the gaps
Guided team members, to ensure that work produced by project team reflected the latest thinking in transport planning and policy
Assisted the coordination and development of the NSW Rail Future Directions that includes the writing and review of chapters and executive presentation material

Improved efficiency and clarity of directions and the strategy’s structure
Provides high quality specialist advice on policy directions that effectively supports a long term vision for rail in NSW
Successfully implemented storyboards and roadmaps to guide project team and working groups
Maximised the efficiency of project activities by streamlining approaches and methodologies and applying consistency
Pre-empted and mitigated strategy development hurdles, risks, issues, and challenges
Contributed to successful executive engagement across TfNSW, including through visualisations and mapping that constructively informed policy debate
Ensured governance activities were approached holistically and the effectiveness of governance arrangements were monitored and improved
Upskilled government employees by providing hands-on guidance to improve their strategic and project development skills for large, complex infrastructure projects
